Freedom Names Herwitz President of Broadcasting; Fox Veteran

IRVINE, CA, Nov. 8, 2010 - Television veteran Thomas R. Herwitz, former President of Station Operations for Fox Television, has been named President of Freedom Broadcasting to oversee the Company's eight television stations, Freedom Communications announced today.

Mr. Herwitz, who assumes his new position today, succeeds Doreen Wade, President of Freedom Broadcasting since 2002, who helped successfully guide Freedom's broadcast properties through the Company’s restructuring.

"Tom Herwitz brings a wealth of television experience and an abundance of creativity and imagination to this position, and Freedom is very lucky to get him," said Freedom CEO Mitch Stern. "I know from working with Tom at Fox Television the kind of energy and commitment he’ll bring to the job of guiding our broadcast properties forward through the new media landscape."

Mr. Stern added: "On behalf of the entire management team, I would like to express my appreciation for Doreen Wade's dedication and many contributions to our company over the years. She has been a tremendous asset and played a critical role in our successful restructuring. We wish her nothing but the best as she moves forward to take on new challenges." He said that she will be staying on briefly to ensure a smooth transition.

Mr. Herwitz first joined Fox in 1986 as Vice President, Corporate and Legal Affairs, after serving as Legal Assistant to the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission. From 1989 to 1993, Mr. Herwitz was Vice President and General Manager of WTTG, the Fox owned and operated station in Washington, DC. He helped to develop America's Most Wanted and the Fox Morning News, and was the creator of the children's news show Not Just the News and the political talk show Off the Record.

He was President of Station Operations for Fox from 2000 to 2005 and prior to that Executive Vice President from 1996 to 2000. Since 2005, he has consulted on broadcast acquisitions, operations, and management. He holds a J. D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.

Ms. Wade, a 26-year Freedom veteran, was Vice President and General Manager of WPEC, Freedom’s CBS affiliate in West Palm Beach, FL, prior to being named President of the Broadcast Division in 2002. Before that she held positions at two other Freedom stations. She is a board member of the CBS Television Affiliates Association, National Association of Broadcasters and the Open Mobile Video Coalition.
