FREEDOM'S BOARD OF DIRECTORS


Chairman of the Board

R. DAVID THRESHIE, JR.
Chairman of the Board since 1998. Publisher of the Register from 1979-1998 and a senior vice president of Freedom since 1971. He started as the Assistant Business Manager in 1964 before becoming General Manager of the Register and has served on the Board of Directors since 1965. Threshie is married to Judith Hoiles Threshie, a daughter of the late Clarence H. Hoiles, a son of Freedom's founder, R.C. Hoiles.

BYRON J. CAMPBELL
Campbell, now retired, is a veteran newspaper executive. He was publisher of the Fort Lauderdale News & Sun-Sentinel, the Los Angeles Daily News and the Bergen County (N.J.) Record. He was also president of the suburban publishing and commercial printing operations of the Chicago Tribune in the mid-1970s.

RICHARD A. WALLACE
Freedom's Vice President of Corporate Affairs since 1992. He was general manager of the Register from 1974-1992, publisher of the Anaheim Bulletin from 1968-1974 and has been a member of Freedom's Board of Directors since 1968. Wallace is married to Patricia Hoiles Wallace, a daughter of the late Clarence H. Hoiles, a son of Freedom's founder, R.C. Hoiles.

ROBERT C. HARDIE
Former publisher of the Appeal Democrat in Marysville, California 1945-2000. He was Freedom's Chairman of the Board from 1982-1998. His directorships include Bald Mountain Corporation, Browns Valley Corporation, Two GEE Investors, Inc., Yuba Sutter Arts Council, and Mi Familia. Hardie was married to the late Mary Jane Hoiles Hardie, the daughter of Freedom's founder, R.C. Hoiles.

TIMOTHY C. HOILES
Vice President of Hoiles et Filles, Ltd. since 1990. He was president of First Nevada Affiliates, Inc. from 1991-1993, publisher of the Daily Press in Victorville from 1978-1990, Publisher of The Pampa Daily News from 1974-1978 and has been a member of Freedom's board since 1974. He also serves on the Board of Directors of The Colorado Springs School Foundation. Hoiles is the son of the late Harry H. Hoiles, a son of Freedom's founder, R.C. Hoiles.

JAMES N. ROSSE
Served as president & CEO and Director of Freedom from 1992 to 1999 and has been a member of the Board of Directors of Cowles Media Company. Rosse was Provost of Stanford University from 1984-1992. He joined Stanford's economics faculty in 1965 and served as a founding director of Stanford's Center for Economic Policy Research, associate dean of Humanities and Sciences, and chair of the Department of Economics.

J. MICHAEL HAGAN
Now retired, he was chairman and CEO of Furon Company from 1991-1999. He joined Furon in 1967 and has served as general manager, vice president, president and chief operating officer. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Ameron International, Remedy Temp (a Nasdaq Company) and is on the Board of Trustees of Pimco Funds and Saint Gobain North America. He joined Freedom's board in 1995.

DOUGLAS R. HARDIE
Publisher of the Valley Morning Star in Harlingen, Texas. He was publisher of the Brownsville Herald from 1980-1998 and has been with Freedom since 1969 serving in Colorado Springs, Panama City, Fort Walton Beach and the Register, where he was assistant managing editor. Hardie is the son of Robert C. Hardie and has served on Freedom's board for 29 years.

JOHN F. BITZER, JR.
A consultant for ABARTA, Inc. since 1997, president of ABARTA, Inc. from 1972-1997, and CEO of ABARTA, Inc. from 1987-1997. His directorships include ABARTA to 1997, Arthritis Foundation, Vintage, Inc., Fountainhead Foundation, University of Pittsburgh Family Enterprise Center and the Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania. He has been a director on Freedom's board since 1995.

RAYMOND C.H. BRYAN
Bryan is the special projects manager at Freedom Media Technology Group in New York. He is the grandson of the late Harry Hoiles, a son of Freedom founder R.C. Hoiles. A graduate of Skidmore College, Bryan was also assistant circulation manager at P.O.V. magazine. He previously was an owner/operator of World Gym in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

J. ROGER FRIEDMAN
Friedman has been the CEO of Lebhar-Friedman, Inc., since 1983. Lebhar-Friedman is an information and database company with leading business magazines in the retailing and food service industries.

SAMUEL C. WOLGEMUTH
President of Freedom Magazines from 1995-99. President of Simon & Schuster's Business Technical & Professional Group from 1992-94. Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President of the Reed Travel Group 1991-92. He is a director of Newspaper Association of America, Youth for Christ, Intl., and The Pacific Symphony Orchestra.
